Through a written communiqué from the Board of Trustees of Continental Theological Seminary, read by President Roland Q. Dudley, it was announced to the CTS Community today, that Prof. Dr. Joseph P. Dimitrov, was elected to serve as CTS’s new president. He will take office 1 July 2008.
Board Chairman, Dr. Gregory Mundis said, “We are quite impressed with our president-elect’s qualifications and his heart for the school. President Dudley, whose duties will end 30 June, 2008, will guide the school over the coming months in cooperation with the president-elect.”
The Board expresses gratitude to everyone who participated in the search process and for helping bridge to the future. Great days for CTS lie ahead.
Dr. Dimitrov and his family have lived in Belgium for the past 18 years. He has served on the faculty of CTS for 14 years and has been Dean/Vice President of Education of the seminary since 1999. He is married to Iveta Dimitrova and they have three children, Pavel, Carina, and Benita. They are originally from Bulgaria.
Dr. Dimitrov also serves as Head of Department for the University of Wales validated academic degrees offered at Continental Theological Seminary: BA (Hons) in Bible and Applied Theology, B.Div. and MTh. As well, he serves as dissertation supervisor for B.A., B.Div., and MTh students.
He also serves as supervisor for the University of Wales-Bangor PhD Program offered at CTS. Additionally, Dr. Dimitrov serves as Rector (President) for Evangelical Theological University in Bulgaria.
Dr. Dimitrov holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Sofia Technical University, Sofia, Bulgaria and has completed additional postgraduate studies in Intellectual Property Law from the same university.
He holds two degrees from Continental Theological Seminary: B.A. in Bible and Theology (Magna Cum Laude) and M.A. in Biblical Studies (Summa Cum Laude).
Dr. Dimitrov earned his Ph.D. from Evangelische Theologische Faculteit, Leuven, Belgium. He majored in Historical Theology. His first Minor is in New Testament, and his Second Minor is in Practical Theology. Dissertation: A Comparative Historical and Theological Analysis of the Development and Endurance of the Bulgarian Baptist and Pentecostal Evangelicals up to 1989. The public defense of his dissertation resulted in the graduation distinction of Magna Cum Laude.
He teaches both in the Undergraduate and Graduate level.
Additionally, Dr. Dimitrov has published numerous articles in a variety of Theological journals as well as reading papers at the Society of Pentecostal Studies, Lee University, Cleveland, Tennessee and Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, Charlotte campus.
